Saiful Bouquet provided structural engineering services for the new 115,000 GSF Applied Technology Building at San Bernardino Valley College (SBVC), under DSA jurisdiction. Delivered in collaboration with HMC Architects, the facility now houses over 67,000 ASF of instructional and support space, including nearly 60,000 ASF dedicated to laboratories and hands-on training areas. Designed to support cutting-edge career and technical education, the building serves as a premier learning hub for automotive repair, electric vehicle technology, machine technology, HVAC&R, and water technology programs.

The two-story facility features a distinctive irregular shape, stepped roofs, a sloping façade, and a prominent entrance trellis. Its structural system, designed by Saiful Bouquet, incorporates Buckling Restrained Braced Frames (BRBFs) supported on spread footings, ensuring seismic resilience and long-term durability.

As a Net Zero-ready living lab, the facility integrates advanced sustainable design elements, including solar glass (is this same as PV panels, we have PV on roof), five solar thermal chimneys for passive heating and cooling, and high-efficiency building systems. The project is also LEED Platinum certified, reinforcing SBVC’s commitment to sustainability and innovation in education.
