Saiful Bouquet provided structural engineering services for the $151M UHS Temecula new Hospital Tower and a new Outpatient Service Center.  The project includes a new 140-bed 5-story 177,000 sf OSHPD Acute Care Hospital Tower located on a green-field site.  The UHS Design and Construction employed a unique collaborative approach to designing Temecula Valley Hospital. The design team collaborated with medical professionals and constructors to take part in the design process, focusing on the present and future healthcare needs of the South Riverside County community and utilized a LEAN project delivery method in collaboration with DPR Construction and Turner Construction Company. This process integrated all the design team and stake holders along with OSHPD to offer the greatest value to the client, resulting in a hospital built at 40% below the cost of average healthcare construction costs in California.  The new hospital has all private rooms and a 20-bed intensive care unit (ICU), as well as six high-tech surgical suites, digital imaging, and an advanced electronic clinical information system. The hospital opened its doors to patients in October 2013.

The 5-story structure is composed of a 1-story first level (podium) with a 4-story tower on top of the podium level.  The building is mainly rectangular shaped in plan with a circular rotunda area at the south side of the building.  The hospital tower is a steel structure where the lateral force resisting system of the structure consists of Buckling Restrained Braced Frames in the transverse direction and Special Moment Resisting Frames in the longitudinal direction.  The moment resisting frames utilize reduced-beam section connections at the beam-column joints.  The project is located on a site with liquefiable soils which required the building to be supported on pile foundations.

Saiful Bouquet’s lean approach to the structural design has saved over $3 Million:  $1.5 Million in Foundation and $1.5 Million in Steel.

“I sure appreciate all your expertise and great OSHPD relationships / high trust!   A BIG “Value added” at UHS Temecula!  Thank you!!!
