Saiful Bouquet is the structural engineer of record for the new 7 single-story, steel frame lifestyle retail buildings at the Valencia Town Center Mall. The project is a multi-phased expansion to the existing retail mall to create a lifestyle concept being developed by Westfield. The lifestyle concept brings the retail experience outdoors into the Southern California sunshine. Working closely with the design team, SB developed an efficient structural solution to the 168,500 sq. ft. expansion.
The project utilizes steel frame construction of long span, open web roof trusses, steel moment frames and dual system of moment and eccentric braced frames. A free-standing, 33 ft. tall, cantilevered steel gabled canopy adorns the center entry and two large, structural steel framed trellises span between buildings provide shading overhead for shoppers. These trellises are fixed at one end and free to slide at the other during a seismic event.
