Santa Monica High School Discovery Building wins SEAOSC SEE 2025 Award of Merit- New Construction Category

We’re thrilled to announce that Saiful Bouquet has received a SEAOSC SEE 2025 Award of Merit in the New Construction category for the Santa Monica High School Discovery Building. This groundbreaking 260,000 sq. ft. educational facility is the first K–12 school in the U.S. to embrace the Open Building format. At its core this concept emphasizes flexibility and adaptability for the building to prolong its life and achieve sustainability in a manner not traditionally thought of, namely, longevity. Through its adaptability the building can readily accommodate new functions and needs as they evolve with time and continue to remain relevant.

Our structural design prioritized creating open, reconfigurable spaces adaptable to changing educational and community needs. By integrating HVAC and electrical systems within a raised access floor, we ensured easy access and future flexibility. This award acknowledges our team’s innovative approach to structural design, transforming conventional systems into a unique structure that embodies resilience and sustainability through longevity. We are thrilled that this building will serve generations of students and community members.

We extend our gratitude to our collaborators: Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District (Client), Moore Ruble Yudell Architects (Design Architect), HED (Executive Architect & MEP Engineer), and McCarthy Building Companies, Inc. (General Contractor).
