We are excited to announce that the Claremont McKenna College Robert Day Sciences Center has been honored with the 2026 SEAOSC SEE Award of Merit for New Construction and the People’s Choice Award!
This recognition from the SEAOSC (Structural Engineers Association of Southern California) celebrates outstanding achievement in structural engineering, sustainable design, and community impact.
Designed by BIG – Bjarke Ingels Group, the Robert Day Sciences Center showcases an iconic, column-free, “jenga-like” stacked layout that fosters collaboration across academic disciplines. This innovative design creates a fluid, open environment where science, computing, and the humanities intersect. Engineering a laboratory building with stringent vibration criteria, dramatic cantilevers, and expansive open spaces required pushing boundaries—balancing rigorous seismic resiliency with an ambitious architectural vision.
We extend our gratitude to the SEAOSC for this recognition and congratulate the Claremont McKenna College community and the entire project team. Realizing such a complex structure required extraordinary collaboration, and we are deeply appreciative of the dedication of our key partners, including general contractor KPRS Construction Services, Inc., steel contractor The Herrick Corporation, and construction manager IDS Real Estate Group.
