Saiful Bouquet provided structural engineering services for the LATTC Library Learning Resource Center Renovation Project. The existing 2-story (over basement), Learning Resource Center was originally constructed in 1977.  The project consisted of renovating the building architecturally and mechanically as well as improving the building’s seismic performance.

Due to an increase in floor area and seismic mass, the existing steel frame building received a complete lateral bracing system consisting of new concrete shear walls that make the building compliant with 2007 CBC for student occupancy.

As part of the renovation, the building was completely gutted and had all new support systems installed, including a new exterior skin.  The project is LEED Gold Certified.  Sustainable features include roof-mounted photovoltaic panels, solar light tubes, along with the usage of recyclable materials and fly ash.

A unique challenge for this project was that DSA approval was required within 3 weeks from receiving comments in order to secure state funding.  This is unheard of for a DSA project of this scale; however SB completed the initial structural comment responses in only 5 days and completed the back-checks within 2 weeks.

As a result, DSA approval was gained and state funding was secured.
